Product Description – Silver Shark (Balantiocheilos melanopterus)

Also known as the Bala Shark, the Silver Shark is a striking and energetic freshwater fish prized for its metallic sheen and graceful, shark-like appearance. Despite its name, this species is peaceful and makes a great addition to large community aquariums.

Silver Sharks are highly active swimmers and should be kept in groups of 3 or more to reduce stress and promote natural schooling behavior. With proper care and space, they grow into impressive centerpiece fish.

Key Features:

  • Peaceful, schooling species

  • Metallic silver body with black-edged fins

  • Grows up to 30cm (12 inches) – suitable for large tanks

  • Ideal for well-maintained community setups

  • Best kept in groups for confidence and activity

Water Parameters:

  • Temperature: 22–28°C

  • pH: 6.5–8.0

  • Minimum tank size: 4ft+ for juveniles; 6ft+ recommended long-term

Diet:
Omnivorous – enjoys high-quality pellets, flakes, frozen bloodworm, brine shrimp, and vegetable matter like cucumber and courgette.

Important Note:
Due to their adult size and active nature, Silver Sharks require spacious tanks with ample swimming room and a secure lid (they can jump!).

An eye-catching addition for aquarists ready to provide the space these beauties deserve.
